Common Poppy, red (Papaver rhoeas)

Red Common Poppy (Papaver rhoeas) – a stunning, summer-flowering annual with large, silky, ruffled flowers in bright red with a dark center. Creates an elegant, wildflower meadow effect and attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Self-seeds readily and often returns the following year.

Sow directly outdoors in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Prepare the area by lightly raking the soil, then sprinkle the seeds thinly. Germination takes 7–30 days, and the soil should be kept moist during this period. Corn poppies tolerate poor, sandy soils well and will easily self-seed. Sow in spring or autumn.
