Blue-thimble-flower (Gilia capitata) 0,5g
Blue-thimble-flower (Gilia capitata) is an annual, easy-to-grow plant with round, dense inflorescences made up of many small, bluish to violet flowers. The flower heads rise on slender stems above finely divided, light green leaves, giving the plant a light and airy appearance. Blooms from early to mid-summer and is especially suitable for natural beds and wild-type plantings. Globe gilia is highly favored by pollinators, attracting bees and butterflies. Grows best in a sunny location with well-drained, light soil, is undemanding and moderately drought-tolerant. Suitable both for ornamental cultivation in the garden and for cut flower arrangements.
Sow directly outdoors in April–May or in autumn in September–October; sow seeds very shallowly, just lightly pressing into the soil or covering with a thin (1–2 mm) layer of soil, as light is required for germination. Germination occurs within 7–14 days at a temperature of +15–20 °C. After sprouting, thin out, leaving about 15–20 cm between plants. Gilia grows best in a sunny location, in light, well-drained soil, watering moderately; after rooting, it is fairly drought-tolerant. Good self-seeder.
