Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) – an annual plant with bright yellow to orange flowers that later deepen to reddish tones. It develops strong, upright stems with tough, thorny leaves. Excellent for dried arrangements and cut flower bouquets. Very tolerant of heat and drought, it performs best in full sun and well-drained, light soil. Typically reaches 80–100 cm in height. Traditionally grown as an oil and dye plant; safflower oil is obtained from its seeds. Attracts pollinators, and birds particularly enjoy the seeds.

Sow directly outdoors in April–May. Does not like transplanting.
