Common Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) is a perennial, aromatic plant with bright yellow, button-like flowers arranged in dense clusters.

Seeds can be sown indoors. The seeds are small, so they should only be lightly pressed into the soil. The optimal temperature is +18–22 °C, and germination occurs in 10–20 days. When 2–4 true leaves have formed, the seedlings are pricked out and hardened off before planting out. Plant outdoors after frost (usually in May) in a sunny spot, keeping a distance of 40–60 cm between plants. Tansy can also be sown directly outdoors from March to October. Nutrient-rich, well-worked soil is required. Tansy is very hardy, easy to grow, and can become aggressive if not controlled.

A plant with a wide range of uses in folk medicine and for repelling pests. For example, ants dislike tansy, so this herb is often planted near house entrances. Tansy has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antispasmodic effects. It is also used as an anthelmintic. Tansy contains substances that can be toxic, so if you plan to use the plant for food, be sure to thoroughly familiarize yourself with its properties and preparation methods!! We encourage you to use any medicinal plants thoughtfully and in moderation!
