Eucalyptus ‘Silver Dollar’ (Eucalyptus cinerea)
Eucalyptus ‘Silver Dollar’ (Eucalyptus cinerea) - a eucalyptus variety with round, silvery-gray-green leaves and a strong aroma, making it one of the most popular florist materials in arrangements. The leaf color is variable – young shoots acquire a beautiful bronze hue. The variety forms a dwarf shrub — in a pot it reaches 80–100 cm, in nature up to 5–15 m if not pruned. Grows well in full sun, in acidic to neutral, well-drained soil. Regular pruning helps maintain a compact shape and decorative foliage.
Eucalyptus is easy to care for, drought-tolerant, and after root establishment can withstand light frost. It is suitable both for cut foliage production and as a specimen shrub in the garden or container.
Eucalyptus is native to Australia; due to the warm climate and bright days, it grows as a perennial plant. In Europe, it is grown as an annual. When grown in a pot, eucalyptus reaches up to 90 cm in height, although in natural conditions, the 'Silver Dollar' can reach 10 m.
Sow seeds indoors 10–12 weeks before the last frost. Press the seeds into the soil without covering them. Germination is slow, up to 30 days, requiring patience and stable temperature. The vegetation period lasts 120–150 days. Soil pH 5.5–6.5
Harvest when the foliage is fully mature. Vase life — 14 days or more. The leaves are also suitable for drying and retain their decorative appearance for a long time.
