Melon ‘Retato degli Ortolani’ (Cucumis melo) – a traditional Italian variety with an intensely sweet, aromatic flavour. The fruits are round, with a thick, firm rind covered in a coarse netting and pronounced ribbing. The flesh is orange-yellow, juicy and very fragrant. Fruits usually weigh 1–1.5 kg. Vegetation period approx. 80–90 days.
Sow seeds indoors in March–April in warm seed trays or pots and transplant into the greenhouse or a sunny, sheltered outdoor spot after the danger of frost has passed. Germination requires a temperature of +20…+25 °C. Grows best in fertile, well-drained soil. Regular watering, warmth and plenty of sun are essential for a good harvest.
