Spearmint (Mentha spicata var. crispa) - One of the most aromatic mint species. Spearmint is a perennial with characteristic crinkled, bright green leaves. Seeds are sown early in spring for seedlings or directly outdoors after the last frost. Sow superficially or at a very shallow depth, as seeds require light for germination. Germination usually occurs within 10–20 days. 

Spearmint prefers moist, nutrient-rich soil and a sunny or partially shaded location. To limit spreading, it is recommended to grow in pots or with root barriers. Regular pruning encourages bushier growth and a more abundant leaf harvest.
