Marjoram (Majorana hortensis) 0,2g
Marjoram (Majorana hortensis) – a heat-loving, aromatic herb with a mild, sweetly spicy aroma and a slightly floral, warm taste. It is especially popular in Mediterranean and Central European cuisine, where it is used in the preparation of meat, vegetables, legumes, and sauces. Marjoram has finer and milder leaves than oregano, and its aroma is more harmonious and less pungent. The plant forms a compact, bushy clump, is decorative, and suitable for growing both in beds and pots.
Seeds are sown on the surface or at a very shallow depth, as they require light for germination. Sow indoors for seedlings or directly in the bed after the risk of frost has passed. Germination occurs within 10–20 days. Marjoram grows well in a sunny, warm location, in light, well-drained, and fertile soil. Regular pinching of the tops promotes bushier growth and more aromatic leaf formation. In our climate, it is most often grown as an annual plant.
